German Military Cross Medal - Military Monday

http://genealogybycindy.blogspot.com/
Everythings relative

I was at Everything's Relative - Researching Your Family History reading her topic for Military Monday. She had this medal which I thought I might have seen before. Maybe I have seen one like it, and not the same. Glance at the picture above for maybe the era of 1840's - 18 60's onwards upwards. It is difficult to tell, but I think his is round. If I was more positive about the name label that appeared in the Meyer book, I could say the time frame, but I question this name. The gents I have pictures of clearly look alike. Including my own Wilhelm Meyer in resemblances.

So I was Inspired to google for information about second class military medals of the second wwar, and I did. And what a find of fanatastic information there is under the military category

It is here too I see an agreement that the medal is world war 11 second class metal. Whether it is with or with out a hallmark is important for dating the metal.

And now for the finally. The much decorated The Red Baron. I think he was my first military person I ever googled in the past. My brother- in- law learned of my interest in genealogy, so he asked if I was related to the Red Baron. Why I asked? Because [ I was told] of his association with the name Meyer name, he said. So I had to know and I did see that he was not related. He is a fascinating person, I should do a blog about him someday.
This site might be of interest to anyone interested in his colorful life

I did not know that there has been a newer movie release on him. I really have to see it now.
I must admit that there are lots of websites centered around the topic of war deviations. Forums, even battles re fought, just all kinds for those interested in the topic for what ever the reason.
More on the Red Baron by people who knew the Red Baron....

You have been awarded the Ancestor Approved award for your great work on your genealogy blog...please stop by my blog and pick up the award (by right clicking on it and saving it to a .jpg) and then post the below information with the picture, using the format I used when receiving it.

The Ancestor Approved Award asks that the recipient list ten things you have learned about any of your ancestors that has surprised, humbled, or enlightened you and pass the award along to ten other bloggers who you feel are doing their ancestors proud.
