Johann Warnecke from Muecklingen on the ship RUGIA 7.mai.1883

This is Clark township, including Wells, Faribault county, Minnesota, USA

On and off these last couple of month in one way or aother I have made a mention of the Immigration of citizens from Nahrendorf and Dahlenburg on the Passenger ship RUGIA in 7 mai May of 1883 arrival to New York from Hamburg. The passengers of interest to me that I mentioned were Seil, Schroeder which can be seen here.
The passengers that I have a high interest in are from Muecklingen. and Dahlenburg.

Four more names were listed between them and then this family Warnecke for our discussion today.

I had almost no knowledge of the particular family WARNECKE which appeared there. So I got busy and started to see that Johann had been living in Minnesota at least by the time of his daughters birth 1893 according to the 1900 census. He died in 1928 before the 1930 census. So lets fill in the time.


So the next step would be the Federal census of 1900 and the state census following a locality identification.

1885 - Now we see the fourth child if I am correct in finding John. I believe John,36; Mary,32; Henry, 13 * 1872; Emma,11 11; Willie 4.

John born 1849 age 52. Mary 50. and Louisa 18 lived at Clark township in Faribault co. parents born Germany


I did find the son William with wife Emilie living in Wells, Fareibault county, Minnesota in 1905 state census. They lived next to M. Wilder.



I think that this is all I can come up with at this time. I suspect the Schroeder and Grote family who settled here are originally from the same area. It is possible that some of them came directly there early rather than settle permanently in Iowa or Illinois. they could have stopped in other states to earn money and to see friends and relatives before moving on. But were in this county by 1887.

You should come back to see , if I have found anything on the fellow passenger of the surname Konau, who was also traveling with them on ship Rugia in May 1883.

I was at Everything's Relative - Researching Your Family History reading her topic for Military Monday. She had this medal which I thought I might have seen before. Maybe I have seen one like it, and not the same. Glance at the picture above for maybe the era of 1840's - 18 60's onwards upwards. It is difficult to tell, but I think his is round. If I was more positive about the name label that appeared in the Meyer book, I could say the time frame, but I question this name. The gents I have pictures of clearly look alike. Including my own Wilhelm Meyer in resemblances.

So I was Inspired to google for information about second class military medals of the second wwar, and I did. And what a find of fanatastic information there is under the military category

It is here too I see an agreement that the medal is world war 11 second class metal. Whether it is with or with out a hallmark is important for dating the metal.

And now for the finally. The much decorated The Red Baron. I think he was my first military person I ever googled in the past. My brother- in- law learned of my interest in genealogy, so he asked if I was related to the Red Baron. Why I asked? Because [ I was told] of his association with the name Meyer name, he said. So I had to know and I did see that he was not related. He is a fascinating person, I should do a blog about him someday.

I did not know that there has been a newer movie release on him. I really have to see it now.

Is My Relative Jaeschke on the German Naughty List

Yes, you can check the list to see if your emigrant was on it during years 1830 - 1895. Their are lists here at this site and on another page their are more from orginal historical German profiles, personal descriptions, signalment and biographies of beggars, scammers, roaming, crooks, exiles, criminals, the poor, vagrants, vagabonds, homeless people, petty criminals and their victims in a large "gallery sicherheitsgefährlicher subjects from" the period 1500-1919.Profiles from the German Reich in 1904.

If your person was recorded at all it's possible that he is listed there through
Investigation records, subpoenas and summonses

Supposedly they say there are links to biographical, genealogical and local knowledge sources of the early 20th century, with historical or has escaped from German authorities holding the offenders concealed the deal, in the form of printed profiles, subpoenas and summonses, as a register and bibliographic research tools presented.

This is what I saw, and I am in particular interested in the one Gustav Jeschke from Schlesia. The Jaeschke I am in particular interested in is from Danzig area now Poland.

I have reason to believe that my Lizzie Seil's husband had something on his record, when he emigrated in 1885 from the Danzig area. He had been a military bugler at the time he left. He also was involved in some religion that was not cared for by the military or the local government. We think it could be Mason, but we don't know for sure. My relative has not wanted to have much of his family mentioned because his family in Germany were uneasy about it. So for those reasons, I also just left this family name alone.

It is nice as a researcher if you know they left a paper trail and I think Gustav Did.

I only wish I were more familiar with the area that he left on ship Aller in 1885 or 1888 under the ticket of his brother August and how to reseach it. There had to have been as they say here a few documents by the authorities and maybe even the newspapers. Ad it is said that his brother August had repercussions from his brothers Gustav's actions too.

As for this group who provide this information for a fee, they have the year wrong, and so I doubt it is my fellow. I wouldn't mind learning more abut Eickendorf or Eickerdorf.

I guess reviewing this site, was just a little reminder of the vast information available that I know little about, and should.
