There are Unions in USA and the Old Guilds of GERMANY

It will take several Posts and it will give many surnames. I hope you stay tuned.

Guilds of Germany involve shoe makers, tailors, wood workers, all kinds of masters at their trades.
Like married like. Usually a shepherd family married other Shepherd's daughters. The same rule probably applied with guilds.'

  1. The guilds were very powerful. I noticed that in one of the walled cities of Siebenbürgen (Transylvania) that each guild sponsored one of the towers that protected the town of Hermannstadt (these were Germans in what is now called Sibiu). Thanks also for your comment on my post -- my grandmother was also part of a guild -- of dressmakers. People always tried to protect their professions.

  2. Your comments about Transylvania are interesting. I had not thought of the women in the guilds but I suppose so. Germans were are such people who kept things well organized.
