Sorry this was suppose to be a link with an embed. It was not. I have been trying to get around to the old version of google map, with out landia. it's tough to find.

I had to follow your blog over, just because of the extraordinary name! I didn't know it would be about geneology! Very clever. We love geneology at our house. I really wanted to take my kids to Sweden and Norway this summer on a cruise to see our roots, but with kids working, it doesn't look like it can happen.

I wish I could help with the Google Maps but I have trouble figuring out why Blogger does what it does. There are help forums, if you have the patience to deal with those things (I often do not), but others I know have found answers to troubling Blogger perversities. I love all the German names on the map, though -- especially Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony--is how I would translate). The Germans in Transylvania were known as Sächsen - Saxon Germans. Most came originally from Luxembourg or Alsace area.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, I did find the the google with embed capabilities as you see above, but I think I had to specify. I may see what they offer for german street view some day. I am sure it has a different name. Panorama or something like that too.

I garden or I used to be more involved with it, but it seems this blogging stole me away from all the time I once spent outside. I have occaisional posts at my sunnyside.
I love Google Maps! I've created some to map ancestors in Germany, as well as ancestors in Springfield and Chicago (& suburbs) Illinois. I'm working on one for Corpus Christi, Texas (my husband's family has connections there, too, and that is where we met), and next I will do Houston, Texas, where my mother is from and where I grew up.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree Amanda. It does add that perfect touch. And now in 2014 I think the new versions like google earth and satellite and street views in american and german versions are wonderful. I have tried to track down house numbers using the maps this way.
